*Mods feel free to remove this post if you feel it is innapropriate*

The protest is being held at 4pm on the 28th of November at Springfield University Hospital (outside the main gates).

It will be a peaceful candle lit Virgil to remember all those who have died through the lack of care in the UK NHS MH system and to hightlight how insufficient mental health services are and to communicate to them that we need change.

Reading: 'The Preacher' [Jun. 3rd, 2007|04:21 pm]
London for Intelligent People.

The Streatham Library Readers Group(catchy title, don't you think?) will be reading and discussing Ennis/Dillons's 'the 'Preacher' starting with 'Gone to Texas'. Copies have been put aside for anyone in the reading group to pick up & bone up on before we all meet up. To qualify as a member of the reading group you have to join the library & have a London address.  A work address will do.

Any reader group member can suggest any graphic novel to be read/reviewed but we'll be doing the 'Preacher' for now.

We'll be meeting up on the 11 June at Streaham Library. For further details click on the link

Streatham Library is in the SW2 area of London, UK. So anyone in London is welcome although it's probably only easily accessible to residents of Lambeth and the surrounding boroughs. But if it's on your commuting route it could be an interesting diversion.

For said commuters Streatham has three rail stations; Streatham Common; Streatham; Streatham Hill. Streatham Lbrary is between Streatham & Streatham Hill stations. For more a better idea of the location check the map via the link above.

I joined this community for the express purpose of plugging the reading group so please delete this if you feel it's inappropriate

(no subject) [Feb. 22nd, 2007|05:22 pm]
London for Intelligent People.

I'm very new to the city and looking for private violin tuition. I am aware of the various websites where teachers can list, but would be more interested in personal recommendations if anyone has any experiences to share. I:

Am an adult learner (25)
Last played approximately 7 years ago, when I was studying for my ABRSM Grade 7
Live in SE1, and would prefer weekend lessons due to a long weekday commute.

I am not interested in group lessons thanks, but fortnightly lessons would be fine :)

Thanks in advance

wedding directory site [Jan. 11th, 2007|09:20 am]
London for Intelligent People.
Hey. I have set up a new website www.planningmybigday.com it is a business directory website for wedding suppliers. The reason I set this up was because there was a lack of wedding directories that were functional AND nice looking. So, anyway, there it is.

We offer 3 different levels for wedding suppliers:

free listing - 2 month listing. you will need to link back to us

paid listing 6 months - £15 for 6 months of listing. will be no need to resubmit details afterwards as it is done automatically unless you cancel your subscription. you get a "featured" listing, which means you will come at the top of your category and there is no need to link back to us (although we'd quite like it if you did)

paid listing 12 months - same as 6 months except it costs £25 and is for 12 months

for brides-to-be we have the directory listings for you to use free of charge and there is no need to sign in or register with the site. We also have the forum for you to use but you do need to register in order to post to it.

we will soon have articles of interest for users of the site (brides, grooms etc) too - if you are a professional writer or wedding specialist and would like to submit an article please email editorial@planningmybigday.com

all other enquiries to info@planningmybigday.com

For UK suppliers only

Are you a journalist looking for experience? [Sep. 15th, 2006|04:46 pm]
London for Intelligent People.
The London Project (www.thelondonproject.com) is an online lifestyle magazine for Londoners by Londoners. This magazine was produced in order to give newly qualified London journalists a chance to gain experience and cuttings. We will soon be re-launching and are looking for fresh, talented, hard-working writers to participate in offering content to the readers of TLP.

You will be working from home and corresponding via email. You will be capable of offering ideas, conducting research, making contacts, interviewing and meeting deadlines. It is paramount that you are a Londoner and willing to work for free. We may be able to pay in the future but at this stage cannot guarantee financial reward so it really has to be for the love of London and writing.

We will be covering areas such as entertainment, health and beauty, culture and style, nightlife and travel. Other aspects of the web site will include competitions, special offers, forums and reader opinions.

If this is something you would like to be involved with then please email editorial@thelondonproject.com with a cover letter, cv and 2 recent samples of your work (preferably published). We will only contact those that are successful.

There is also opportunities in sub-editing, web design, picture sourcing, PR and advertising for those that express interest.
